Alaska trip June 25th

Well we departed Quesnel heading for Whitehorse with a fuel stop in Watkins Lake. We broke up into two groups for this leg thinking maybe that would work better because there are some airplane slower than some of the others. So the slower group launced off 30 minutes before our group did. We lifted off at 10:15.

The first group had to stop at Mackenzie to get fuel along the way because they didn't have enough fuel reserve with there speed to safely make it all the way to Watkins Lake. Our group, because of our speed and fuel burn, was able to make this leg trip without a fuel stop. Our total flight time from Quesenel to Watkins Lake was about 3hours and 15 minutes.

Our route took us through some fairly spectacular country side and scenery. We were flying through what they call up here the "Trench' , which is just what it sounds like however it's a really big trench. We were able to see a Moose and Black bear enroute.

In leaving Watkins Lake heading to Whitehorse there was little concern about a stretch of weather along our route based on a pilots report who had been there. We did ecounter some lower ceiling during a small strech with actually some light drizzle and a few snow flakes, but nothing of any concern. That just goes to show you that you can't trust those pilots ya know eh(Canadian talk :>} )

We arrived into Whitehorse around 5:00 PM. We had to wait quite awhile for our transportation to our hotel and we didn't get there until around 6:30. All of us were a little tired by that point. We walked from our hotel to a restaurant not to far away and had a very nice meal. We made it back to our hotel around 10PM.

The people thus far have been very nice and friendly up here in Canada.

Tomorrow we head to Fairbanks, where if the weather will co-operate, Ron & I will possible break away from the group to fly up to the Arctic Circle.
