Today we took a train ride out of Anchorage to a town called Whittier. The train was a very comfortable train and our trip there was about 2 hours. The scenery in route was as usual very beautiful and we saw various wild life en route. We saw mountain sheep way up high along the edges of the steep ridges, it's amazing that they can navigate along these steep ridges the way they do. One of the tour guides said that these sheep can weigh up to 300 lbs.
At Whittier we boarded a sight seeing type boat that took us out about 2 hours or so for some fantastic viewing of snow capped mountains and glaciers. The pictures for today can do it much more justice than me trying to explaining it. Boy it can get pretty chilly when you get up and personal with the large glaciers.
We had a meal on board that was fairly good, which included prime rib and of course salmon. They had an over abundance of desserts, which everyone took advantage of.
We left Whittier around 7:30 and arrived back into Anchorage at about 9:30 but it looked like mid day because right now up here it's not getting dark at all at night.A couple of nights I got up around 1;00 AM to use the facility and it was fully light outside. They have these curtains in the hotel that blocks out the light but the problem is that some light creeps around the ends.
On another note my plane was acting up a little and I had to leave it at a repair station yesterday. We're not for sure what the exact problem is but we're having difficulty with the left magneto, which is a backup to the electronic system the engine runs on. I'm hoping that it's something as simple as a loose connection but it could possible be a bad magneto. I wanted to call the repair shop before they left last night to find out if they had isolated the problem but because of where the boat took us, we all lost our cell phone reception. We will be leaving out for Ketchikan on Weds, so I'm hoping we don't run into any type of snag in getting it repaired.
