Trip to Alaska July 1

Well today was pretty much a down day here in Anchorage. I got the verdict on the problem on my plane. The left magneto has seen it's final days. The manufacture had apparently issued a notice at the beginning of June that there is a known problem with this particular magneto and I guess I found it.

Then our next problem became trying to find a replacement magneto for the bad one because they are a little different because I have electronic ignition, which most don't have this. The manufacturer, Unison, agreed to overnight one to us but then our next issue became that no one up here has the timing tool necessary to time the new magneto after installation. I called back home and my hangar mate, Steve Gross, took my timing tool over to UPS and over nighted it to me.

So hopefully everything will show up tomorrow morning and we can get back up and running. The next problem is that our group will be leaving tomorrow morning for Ketchican, which is about 800 miles away. Were not going to be able to leave until about 2 or 3 PM tomorrow afternoon so will have to go solo on this leg of the trip. Hopefully we can make it in to Ketchican by 10PM tomorrow evening. Luckily the long daylight hours should work to our benefit.

That's about it for today. Didn't take any photos of my plane with the cowling off : >}

Hey, Wayne, sorry to hear about the bad luck and I hope you get you "wings" back on soon or Traudl might think you got a thing going on in Anchorage...just kidding!

I took a page out of your book and added a blog site for Carol situation. If interested it's: HTTP://www.carolsoperation.blogspot.com.

Again, sorry we won't be meeting tomorrow. Take care and keep in touch.
